Fiskexpressen cuts food waste and grows sales by SEK 250,000 with the Karma app

Fiskexpressen, a local fishmonger, partnered with Karma to cut food waste and grow sales. The result: 94% of listed items sold, generating over SEK 250,000 in extra revenue. The partnership attracted 3,800 new customers and kept more than 5,000 food items from being thrown away over the past year.

Challenge

Fiskexpressen, a local business in Ängelholm, focuses on offering fresh fish and seafood with personal service. With a high turnover of fresh goods, they faced the challenge of reducing food waste while finding an effective way to grow sales. Like many in the industry, they saw a lot of food at risk of being thrown away even though it was still of high quality. Handling fresh produce demands selling products fast, which is not always easy.

They realised they needed a solution that would not only cut waste but also attract new customers to the shop, customers who value sustainability and quality.

Solution

Fiskexpressen chose to partner with Karma after evaluating several options. Karma stood out as the best solution thanks to its easy-to-use app and its smart focus on reducing food waste without pushing the problem onto its users. Unlike other solutions, Karma lets Fiskexpressen sell exactly the items they have, in the right quantity and at the right price, so the customer knows what they are buying. This maximises customer satisfaction and reduces food waste.

The partnership has been a success thanks to clear routines for how Karma is used in daily operations. Every day, one member of staff is responsible for listing items in Karma, and they have learned which time works best, usually first thing in the morning. This ensures the items sell before they go to waste. Fiskexpressen has also found they can mix in items that are fresh that day but that they have too much of, further raising the quality of their offering.

Result

Through its partnership with Karma, Fiskexpressen has achieved impressive results. Of everything they list on Karma, 94% sells, and they now have over 3,800 loyal users who shop regularly through the app. The partnership has also let Fiskexpressen cut its food waste significantly, which benefits the environment and adds a welcome boost to sales.

Fiskexpressen has seen a natural inflow of customers who want a good deal and to do something good for the environment. Thanks to Karma's simple, user-friendly platform, they have reached a conscious customer base they might otherwise never have reached. Listing items in Karma has also become a natural part of the shop's daily opening and closing routines.

The partnership between Fiskexpressen and Karma has delivered results like:

  • 94% of the items they list in Karma sell the same day
  • Over 3,800 loyal customers through the app
  • Significantly less food waste, with over 5,000 items sold in the past year
  • Sales up more than SEK 250,000 during 2024

Our sales through Karma have brought us over SEK 250,000, while we do something good for the environment by selling more and reducing food waste. It feels like a win for both us and our customers
