ICA Odenhallen in Östersund joined Karma in 2017 but started working more actively with the app in November 2018. Since then, the grocery store has saved 4,713 kg of food and achieved weekly growth of 61%.

Magnus Bardosen, store manager, describes what their daily work looked like before Karma - how they tested many different ways of handling short dates. One approach is marking items with red price tags. But the red tags hurt their in-store sales. With Karma, the sale of short-dated items happens in a completely separate channel, which affects in-store sales far less. Instead, Karma attracts new customers to the store and helps ICA Odenhallen build a relationship with the customers who shop through the app. The app has also cut their food waste by a full 40%. One consequence of that number is that they have reduced their waste bins from eight to five.

By saving tonnes of food, ICA Odenhallen has also prevented 7,069 kg of CO2 from being emitted. They even became the grocery store that sold the most items in August 2019.
